Blind Spots

Kanal Gallery,

Blind Spot is the area around a vehicle that the driver cannot see directly or through the interior and exterior mirrors. A photo installation composed of car parts and photographs printed on car windows, primarily showing views of limited visibility from inside the car looking out or from outside looking in. Components: salvaged front and side windows from a scrapyard vehicle; an exhaust pipe; headlights operating in sync with the windshield wipers; a hood with black-and-white photographs.

Core concerns: visibility and the conditions of visibility; safety and danger; regulations and indeterminacy.

I mapped the conditions through which visibility takes shape and a blind spot is formed. These emerge at the intersection of technical parts, window surfaces, and viewing positions, which structure the legibility of space while leaving parts of it concealed, indeterminate, or dangerous.
